Wendy Wilmer (LiveArtDC Actor) has enjoyed a long and varied career in the Washington DC area for over 3 decades. Trained in France, she has performed in plays, musical comedies, Children’s Theater, opera, puppet theater (hand and rod puppets as well as marionettes), and on camera in industrial training films. She has worked at Source, Adventure Theatre, Classika Theatre, Venus Theatre, Imagination Stage, Spooky Action Theater, the Potomac Valley Opera Company, Vagabond Puppet People, and various area dinner theatres. Highlights have been performing at the Kennedy Center with VSAarts ("The Boy Who Walked Backwards"), Rorschach Theatre ("The Beard of Avon"), Catalyst Theater Company "(Woyzeck" and "Endgame"), WSC Avant Bard ("The Comedy of Errors" and "House of Yes") and Liz Lerman Dance Exchange ("The Farthest Earth From Thee") in the Shakespeare in Washington Festival. She was part of LiveArtDC’s inaugural creative team resulting in" I <3 Hummels", a joyous romp through the world of Hummels and the people who love (or hate) them. She has worked not only as a performer, but as a producer and theater administrator, notably as Managing Director of Open Circle Theatre, a non-profit professional theater company dedicated to empowering disabled performers through working side-by-side with non-disabled theater professionals in staged productions. She was responsible for running Adventure Theatre’s In-School Players for 2 years, booking and touring area schools. She sits on the Board of Directors of The Potomac Valley Opera Company in Arlington, VA where she has been its treasurer since its incorporation as a 501(c)3 non-profit since 1984. Over the years she has also served on the boards of various other non-profit theatre companies in the Washington, DC area. In a parallel life she works as a disability advocate. She is past President of the Polio Society in Washington, DC, having served on their Board of Directors for 12 years. She takes a keen interest in accessibility issues and uses a grass-roots approach to educating people on these issues. During the day she works for Organization.21 which provides management and communication training to select government agencies through the use of interactive drama.
